POST PINK TRAILER

This is a short trailer for our forthcoming release of 'Post Pink', a film about the experience of living with advanced (metastatic) breast cancer. Based on the experience of six Queensland/Australian women and their partners and families, it takes us through the shock of the initial diagnosis and the impact it had on them and their relationships, to the realisation of having to live in a new and meaningful way. It is a story of hope that shows the value of connection with other women and families, and the support gained through a professionally led group. This resource will be of help to women newly diagnosed with advanced (metastatic) breast cancer and to health professionals involved in their care. This film was produced by the Advanced Breast Cancer Group Limited in collaboration with blocmedia and funded by Queensland Health.

Signs

This video was filmed at the last Advanced Breast Cancer Group workshop in November 2015. A video clip we found on Youtube inspired the idea. It shows an attractive, confident woman holding out cardboard signs stating facts about Breast Cancer and her own experience of living with this disease. The clip is funny, moving, and informative: we shared it on our Facebook page and received a lot of positive feedback and ‘likes’. We decided to make our own statement, reflecting on our own experience of being part of the support group either as a member, a relative, or worker. During our creative expressions activity, we sat down in a circle, improvising short sentences, bouncing off each other for inspiration. We shared brief stories, memories, feelings, or just simply inner thoughts that had never been spoken out loud before. We then collected these words, wrote them on cardboard, and one by one we took a seat at the filming chair. This is the outcome of that process. The original music is composed by Bernard Houston and recorded by his quartet Orsino’s Safari.

When the Newman government cut our funding in 2012, we decided to fight the decision. This video was made as part of that campaign. Since then the Palaszczuk government has reinstated our funding, nonetheless the video speaks to what the group offers, and is a reminder of what was under threat.
